The Philadelphia Union adds Youth Development Affiliate in North Carolina

Philadelphia, PA/Wilmington, NC (June 28, 2013) — The Philadelphia Union announce their latest Youth Soccer Club Partnership with the addition of Cape Fear Soccer Club in Wilmington, NC. One of the largest clubs in North Carolina, Cape Fear Soccer Club was included to the Union’s Development Affiliate Network after reviewing the club’s technical and program curriculum, as well as the current coaching leadership in the organization. The partnership will begin with a visit to the Wilmington club from Union First Team Coach John Hackworth on July 15th.

“We are pleased to add Cape Fear Soccer Club as a Youth Development Affiliate”, states Chris Brewer, Philadelphia Union Academy Coach and Affiliate Director. “We’ve already had an outstanding relationship with the club’s leaders, so when we reviewed the club’s current development plans, it was a great fit for both entities going forward.” Hackworth, the former U-17 National Team Coach and US Development Academy Technical Manager agrees, “We’re constantly looking to produce higher quality technical players in the United States. By collaborating with organizations like Cape Fear Soccer Club, we can really emphasize less competitive and more technical environments, especially at the younger age groups where the technical development is so important.”

Home to almost 3000 players in the lower Cape Fear Region, the coastal NC club has long produced players in the collegiate and professional ranks. Cape Fear Soccer Club’s Director of Coaching, Kenny Bundy said, “Invariably we are always challenged to create the best possible programs for our player’s development. We look forward to sharing our club’s mutual philosophies to form a technically demanding and creative environment. The Union’s coaching staff’s input will only enhance our training methods at all levels.”

The Philadelphia Union had previously announced their entry for 2013-2014 season in the US Development Academy for U-14, U-16 and U-18 age groups. The Youth Club Partnership and Youth Development Affiliate Program’s help the Union provide a more direct involvement in player development initiatives for all participating clubs.
